The American Bicycle Association and NBC Universal Sports are proud to announce an exclusive four year agreement to televise ABA events and the 2009 UCI Continental events.
The ABA is experiencing steady growth in membership and will continue growing and building upon the great success of BMX racing`s 2008 Olympic debut. The ABA and NBC Universal Sports will deliver over 20 hours of programming per year for the next four years to an ever growing NBC Universal Sports audience of over 40 million homes. With BMX emerging as the newest Olympic action sport in 2008, and with the American’s claiming three of the first six BMX Olympic medals ever awarded, the ABA is poised for tremendous growth leading up to the 2012 Olympics in London.
The televised race series will focus on the UCI events to be hosted at the following ABA National events
“It has been a pleasure to work with BA and the rest of the ABA staff on the organization and execution of the 2009 UCI event calendar,” said Steve Johnson, CEO of USA Cycling. “These events represent the top level of international BMX racing in America and are a critical link in our athlete development pipeline. BMX is in the news nationwide since the Olympics this summer. Editors have recognized the sport of BMX since it was introduced at the Bejing Games. Recently, the Gretna BMX Raceway was featured in a local newspaper as part of the ABA State Championships coverage.
The Ukaih Daily Journal featured the winners of the Nor Cal State Championships that are from the Rusty Bowl BMX track.
A recent article in the Sports Business Daily quotes the ABA as stating that BMX has grown since the Olympics and that a membership boost has been the result.
There are three ABA tracks in Northwest Indiana and they recognize that the 2008 Olympics have brought more attention to the sport of BMX!

There you have ‘em - for all of you who have already made your main event at a Redline Cup Qualifier (or those of you who plan on qualifying at the remaining RCQ’s), these are the three locations for the Redline Cup Finals - where you can become a REDLINE CUP CHAMPION and earn the Redline Cup No.1 Plate for the next 12 months, the Redline Cup jacket and a photo in the BMXer; just by winning your main event at this event.
The Redline Cup East returns to one of the premiere ABA tracks; the challenging Kettering track in Ohio ran by longtime operators Bob and Anna Bruns. For those in the middle of the U.S., now is the time to make plans for St. Peters, Missouri in mid-September. The Redline Cup Central is traditionally the biggest of the three Finals, and always brings out the best of competition. ABA master track builder, Billy Allen, has just rebuilt St. Peters BMX. And for a big change in venue, the Redline Cup West goes to the Northwest this year, for the very first time in its 14-year history. The location? None other than McCollum Park BMX in Everett, Washington … about 30 minutes north of Seattle.
